Cairnstone was founded in February 1996 by a team of individuals who had previously built the industry’s largest and perhaps most successful organization providing stop-loss products.

After many years in the business, this team observed that all of the companies in the market focused most of their energies on price competition – getting to “the best numbers”. Few resources were dedicated to reducing a client’s real costs – the amounts paid on catastrophic claims.

In addition, the Cairnstone team envisioned the creation of a company where all employees were owners – where each embraced Cairnstone’s values, goals, and strategies.

The Cairnstone team also sought to create a highly entrepreneurial company, where all employees expressed a “can-do” approach to solving problems and serving clients.
