Paul
Fallisi, VP & Chief Actuary of Cairnstone Re, will join other cyclists
in the Cycle Across America event this Summer. This event benefits
The Jimmy Fund and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Paul, has
teamed up with his brother Bill Fallisi, and will depart from San Diego,
California on May 13th, 2005. They will cycle across seventeen states
covering a total of 3,333 miles! They plan on finishing their journey
on June 12th in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire.
Paul has been biking for about ten years. Upon finishing his actuarial
exams, Paul felt he needed to set another goal for himself. He bet
a friend that he could bike the entire length of Vermont (Canada to
Massachusetts). Paul won the bet and since has organized many marathon
bicycle trips. His biggest accomplishment has been completing the Mt.
Washington Hill climb (the world’s toughest one day bike climb)
for the past five consecutive years.
During
the past five years, Paul has been actively raising money for the National
Multiple Sclerosis Society. He has participated in several cycling
events, including their signature "Bike the Berkshires" ride
which includes a strenuous ride to the top of Mt. Greylock.
Currently, Paul and Bill are working out 90 minutes a day, five days
a week. They are in the “base” stage training, building
riding muscles by using weights and Cybex aerobic machines. Towards
mid March, they will begin more intensive task specific training. This
second phase training will include bike riding over local terrain and
intensive “spinning” in the gym. In late April, they begin
to warm down, actually easing the training in order to peak for the
May 13th start date.
